The Best Ideas for Paleo Snacks

 

There are few points to make before we dive into snack lists, tips and the like. Firstly, if you are searching for paleo snacks because you permanently feel hungry then you aren’t eating enough at meal times. The paleo lifestyle isn’t a portion limiting diet, you can eat what you need to eat at meal times, so there is no reason at all to feel hungry between meals.

Having said that, we all sometimes need a snack to give us a boost between meals so here is a list of some of our favourite caveman snacks.

1. Vegetables

Celery and carrot provide plenty of fibre, great nutrition and you can eat as much as you want.

2. Nuts

Macadamia, pistachio, pecan, and walnuts are our favourites. Don’t go crazy especially if you are training as you will struggle to keep your body fat down if you eat a lot of nuts.

3. Boiled Eggs

Easy to prepare and great energy.

4. Tinned Mackerel, Salmon or sardines.

Choose tinned fish in brine or olive oil in preference to sunflower oil so that you know that you are avoiding refined oils.

5. Coconut Oil

Rather that having one of the many sports energy gels available, which are little more than high fructose corn syrup anyway, so have no discernible benefit to you. A A teaspoon full of Coconut Oil will give you much more energy.

6. Chocolate – Quality organic, dark (plain) Chocolate rather than high sugar, creamy milk chocolate.

Avoid low quality chocolate and go for 90% cocoa minimum organic dark chocolate.

7. Beef Jerky – If it’s not covered in sugar

Not easy to find, but well worth the trouble

8. Chicken Wings – Need to be prepared ahead of time but you can get creative with this versatile snack and cook in bulk for a handy snack that will keep you going.

Dress wings up with herbs, chillies, spices etc to make a tasty snack that will give you lots of nutrition.

9. Almond Flour Cookies

These cookies are not recommended as a part of your daily diet, but are a great occasional snack.

10. Berries. Spoil yourself with your favourite berries and a dollop of whipped double cream.

11. Olives

12. Apple with Cinnamon – the cinnamon keeps the natural sugars in the apples in check so get stuck in.

13. Banana with Almond Butter

14. Quality Salami
