Food Intolerance and the Paleo Diet

During the past few thousand years, intensive farming has created cheap food in abundance to allow us to feed an ever growing population. Many of these foods are however not natural to our diet, and as such we find them difficult to digest.

These include wheat, grains and dairy to name a few, others are legumes, and even potatoes which today we eat in large volumes compared to the diets of our ancestors.

Combine this with the processing of many convenience foods, the refining of oils and sugars ang throw in copious amounts of preservatives that keep everything fresh until we are ready to eat it and it’s little wonder we can derive any nutrition from our food at all!

Many people see near instant improvements when they cut unhealthy foods from their diets and revert to a more traditional diet as eaten by hunter-gatherers. We survived healthily and happily for millions of years until relatively new food production methods changed our diets.

There is a reason why obesity levels have shot up in the past 20 – 30 years and most of that is to do with changes to our diets of convenience.

The bottom line is, if your dinner comes out of a packet it will not contain the same goodness and natural nutrition as it would if it came straight out of the ground! You can only have one or the other, sadly not both.

It is amazing if you think about it, you always put the correct fuel in your car…. but often fail to correctly fuel yourself!
